What actually causes muscular twitching? I mean, what happens at the molecular level?

A muscular twitch occurs at the gross level (as opposed to the cellular level) and it is defined as a single contraction which lasts for a fraction of a second. You have likely experienced it with an eyelid or a muscle in the leg. Of course muscle contraction at the cellular level always involves the same culprits, actin and myosin sliding past each other, ATP, calcium, etc. Some feel (now this is beyond the MCAT) that a twitch can be due to a local imbalance of electrolytes.

just curious, by muscular twitching, do you mean the thing that happens when you're muscles generates heat from ATP hydrolysis, to keep warm?

Indeed, shivering is an important reaction to keep warm by involving muscle groups which shake in small movements similar to twitching in a manner to create warmth by expending energy (as you said, ATP).
