I just made that up. But after reading an article that begins that way: would the main purpose of the article be to teach physics or to understand a biological principle. I think that you would agree that the purpose is biology and that physics is only serving as a tool or an analogy.

Now consider the first paragraph: "In the following discussion, we shall review psychological differentiation theory to illustrate how the incorporation of culture in theory and empirical studies can enrich our understanding of social behavior."

The purpose of the passage is the principle, not the analogy.
