Yes, it is indeed possible that transamination products can but the question is asking "What is likely to occur . . . ?" How often are proteins broken down to acetyl CoA to enter the Kreb's cycle? Very, very rare. Of course it happens in times of starvation but that is extraordinarily rare in our society (superkeeners in biochem may recognize other types of transamination rxns which may occur during Kreb's but they are unlike the one described in the passage).
However, what is the likelihood of a catalyst being regenerated at the end of a reaction? 100% |
