Caffeine is best characterized as a:
A)steroid
B)pyrimidine
C)purine
D)nitrogenous base
C-purine is listed as correct, but so too shouldn't D-nitrogenous base?
It's similar to asking whether ice cream is A)frozen dessert or B)dessert. |

| The question asks which best describes the molecule. Therefore, yes it is a nitrogenous base, but mentioning purine is even more precise since purines are a subclass of nitrogenous bases. |

Caffeine is a bitter, white crystalline xanthine alkaloid(alkaloids are a group of naturally occurring chemical compounds which mostly contain basic nitrogen atoms) that is a psychoactive stimulant..
As it is a basic nitrogenous compound so it is best catagorized as purines (double ringed nitrogenous bases)
so instead of writing it as a nitrogenous base we must go to the depth that which nirtrogenous base is it, and offcourse it is purine.. |
