The question has to do with obtaining a female with hemophilia in the 2nd generation. Doesn't this mean 2nd filial generation? Because it seems like the answer talks about the 1st generation.

Just saying "generation" as opposed to "filial generation" is not the same. As you know, "filial" is an adjective meaning "of or relating to a generation or the sequence of generations following the parental generation." Thus if the adjective "filial" is used then the 1st filial generation is actually the 2nd generation in a family tree.

I origingally had this right but then looking at figure one it shows that in the second generation a female has hemophilia or there is a dark circle. So therefore I assumed the mother must have been hetero for the disease and therefore a %25 chance. If there is a zero chance then why is there a figure showing a female with the disease in the second generation?

You are looking at the third generation. Read the two previous posts about labeling generations. The second generation does not have any affected women.

Maybe this Punnet square can help you understand better: The arrow is pointing to what they refer to as the “second generation” or also called the F1 generation (original parents are the F0, or generation zero). The generation with the affected female would be the third generation.

Thus, the second generation has no chance of a female with the disease. The third generation has a female with the disease.

when it says generation, don't you just think that it was referring to F2 generation?

i second the poor wording. The generation being asked for should be specified more clearly.

The question is testing your genetic vocabulary and the ability to differentiate between filial generation and generation. The questions are meant to be challenging and test your understanding of biological vocabulary at the same time.
