| Can you explain why having the same initial velocity means that the argon cation and electron experience the same force? |

| Actually, because the electrodes are oppositely charged and those charges are always balanced, it would have been more accurate to say in the explanation that the force is the same because of exposure to the balanced oppositely charged electrodes. |

I just wanted to inform anyone else reading this that:
THE WORK DONE ON A CHARGED PARTICLE:
The electric force can do work on the particle. (provide a force and thus create an acceleration)
The MAGNETIC force cannot do work and change the kinetic energy of the charged particle (a magnetic force can change the direction of a particle, but not its speed) |
