Gravity is a conservative force, it only depends on the initial and final positions of the object. hence PE=mgh,
NOT PE= mg* sin 0*h
PE=-WORK
closest answer is CHOICE B |

I don't quite follow your logic.

To be more precise, gravitational potential energy is dependent on the initial and final vertical positions of an object, thus height h. The distance provided in the problem (5 meters) is said to be along the incline thus it is necessary to calculate the x component of the distance of 5 m which is equivalent to the height h.
Thus h = 5sin30. |

| i think the question is vague. it needs to say that the distance on the slanted plane is 5 m (out of the 1.2 km total length). we were given the inclined surface length (1.2km), and then another length (5m) which could be misleading as height. for me, i assume i was careless. |
