QUESTION 43 OF PHYSICS

Gravity is a conservative force, it only depends on the initial and final positions of the object. hence PE=mgh,

NOT PE= mg* sin 0*h

I don't quite follow your logic.

PE = mgh

To be more precise, gravitational potential energy is dependent on the initial and final vertical positions of an object, thus height h. The distance provided in the problem (5 meters) is said to be along the incline thus it is necessary to calculate the x component of the distance of 5 m which is equivalent to the height h.

Thus h = 5sin30.

Not related to this question, but the passage calls the truck "he" in the second paragraph.

i think the question is vague. it needs to say that the distance on the slanted plane is 5 m (out of the 1.2 km total length). we were given the inclined surface length (1.2km), and then another length (5m) which could be misleading as height. for me, i assume i was careless.
