| Could you explain why A is not true according to the passage? I realize the difference between "prospective" and "retrospective" but both choice A and the passage talk about studies that are currently underway. Is A the correct answer simply because the word retrospective is contradicting what the rest of the choice says? |

Yes, the problem is with the word "retrospective." In fact, European countries are only mentioned once (paragraph 3, last sentence) and this was the context:
"Prospective studies of socioeconomic differentials in mortality are also underway in England, France and the Scandinavian countries." |

| One might imagine that a "retrospective" study is one that looks at past data. Given that we're talking about mortality, it might be expected that all data here is past data. A "prospective" study is one that is about to be undertaken. So it is entirely possible to have a prospective retrospective study. |
