I tried a lot to underestand the explanation to this question, but i have not been able to fully comprehend it yet. Could you possibly clarify it a little bit more?

This should be covered in the nomenclature of organic chemistry. Alpha position is always the carbon next to the carbonyl carbon, then followed by the Beta. The problem just want to know if we know which is alpha and beta carbons in position to the carbonyl.

| The question should specify which functional group the desired carbon is alpha to. |
