In reviewing this question, it's easily C by deduction. But what I'm a little foggy on is why would it preferentially form a double bond in the less substituted manner. That's the reasoning i had during the test to negate C.

I'm assuming I could have deduced C was the best answer from the information given about the oxidation with potassium permanganate.

But, if it the more substituted alkene was formed, wouldn't the same amount of oxidation have occurred?

I really wish I had my orgo review notes on hand - I wouldnt be asking so many questions. Rolling Eyes
