FYI:
The external intercostals assist in deep inspiration by increasing the anterioposterior diameter of the chest. (wikipedia)
Even still--inspiration involves a decrease in pressure due to contraction of the diaphragm, etc., followed by an INCREASE in pressure as air re-fills the lungs. |
