Since light is entering from the air into the water and being refracted on the surface, wouldn't the equation be 1(sin theta) = 1.333sin(90). solving for sin theta, i get 1.333. How is the answer the inverse of that. Thanks!

The equation cannot be:

1(sin theta) = 1.333sin(90)

because that would suggest that

(sin theta) = 1.333

but of course sine of any angle can never be greater than 1.

The question did not that the "light is entering from the air into the water" since that could never produce a critical angle; the question said the opposite.

The answer key states that "sin θc = 1.00/1.33 ≈ 1/(4/3) = 3/4 = 0.75." And then proceeds to say that means that answer B= .75 is correct. However, sinθc= 0.75, not θc=.75. Is this a mistake of the answer key? shouldn't the answer be in terms of a fraction of pi if we're dealing with radians, or degrees of angles?

I agree with the person above.

The question asks:

Quote:
What is the value of the sine of this angle when the ray moves from water towards air?

So as the explanation says, the sin of theta is 0.75, making answer choice B correct.
