Why wouldn't the charge be -2? I understand that the carboxylic acid deprotonates, but the amine group also deprotonates in a basic environment. Therefore, doesn't it lose 2 hydrogens leading to a -2 charge?

I know you guys are busy, but we are all too. MCATs are coming up and it would be appreciated if you can at least answer a few questions knowing that you all are very busy. Thank you.

As you might have seen when using the forum: This is an open space where students can discuss questions, and the purpose is interaction. We offer this service as a bonus. The main purpose is of course for students themselves to interact and help each other. We do our very best to answer postings, but it is important for you to understand that this service is provided freely and that no other company does this for students.
