If I worked out the vertical and horizontal components and they came out to 21 and the initial v = 30 how would that answer be correct given the format for answer D??

| Yes, only because answer choice D is the best answer (in other words, reasonably close enough compared to your other choices). |

| im still really confused with this question. 21 is greater equal to more than half of the initial velocity (30). why is this not true?? |

| It is try that 21 m/s is equal to more than 1/2 of the initial velocity which is 30 m/s which is answer choice D (the correct answer). |

You are right! I can't believe that last week I got suckered into changing answer choice D! I have put it back to its original "wrongness"!
D. The initial horizontal and vertical components of the velocity are equal to half the initial velocity. |

Question #49 is still incorrect.
It is asking which of the choices are not correct. and D is the answer choice which says that
The initial horizontal and vertical components of the velocity are equal to half the initial velocity.[x]
The cos/sin of 45 are both the same values, so this should be true, which makes it a wrong answer. |

The question makes sense to me.... unless the wording of the question has been recently changed... its clear as day man.
30(cos)45 =21
30(sin)45 =21
1/2 Initial velocity equals 15.
15 does not equal 21.
Answer D is a false statement.
