The 2008-2009 Edition of The Gold Standard Deck of Flashcards - 200 of the most frequently tested MCAT concepts on 54 cards - are now available at Amazon.com and The MCAT Store - www.mcat-bookstore.com/flashcards - for only $7.99. Some of the information below is from the box while a suggestion for instructions has been added towards the bottom.
Description
Are you tired of memorizing hundreds of facts that would never be tested on the real MCAT? There are many companies that are happy to have you memorize names of dead scientists or the structures of all 20 alpha amino acids and much more. The Gold Standard has a different approach. George Bernard Shaw once apologized to a friend for having written a long letter; he said he did not have enough time to write a short letter! The Gold Standard has taken the time to condense an enormous amount of material into 54 high quality poker sized cards containing over 200 of the most frequently tested concepts from the new MCAT CBT. In fact, The Gold Standard’s Complete MCAT Course (Platinum Program) is a short letter to you, the premed student, containing the information you need to know to become a medical student. If you don't have time to waste, remember our name. Good luck and let's get started.
Instructions
This deck of flashcards is meant to be used as a memory aid and to solidify concepts by considering the questions before turning the card over to review the answers. If you absolutely want to turn this into a card game then invite your MCAT buddies over (wow, what a party!!!) and follow the suggestions below or suggest something of your own and post it in this forum.
You can play with 2 or more people. Take turns in a clockwise direction. Put the deck of cards in the middle of the table (minus the Jokers) and one person takes a card from the top of the deck and reads the questions. The person next in line must try to answer each question. If that person reasonably answers each question (to the satisfaction of the person asking the question) then they get to keep the card. If they do not answer sufficiently well then the card returns to the bottom of the deck and then the next in line takes a card and asks the question.
This continues until all questions are answered reasonably well.
At the end, points are calculated in accordance with any agreed upon standard card game (ie. Poker, Rummy, etc).
Please note: it's almost impossible to answer all questions on all cards perfectly so this is why the expression "reasonably well" is used when describing the answers. |
