could you please explain #40?
40. The author indicates that a controversy exists concerning what generates health care demands. Which of the following are given as arguments for this increase in demand?
1. Physicians reduce health care demands, therefore the more physicians there are, the less the demand there will be. [x]
2. The health care demand already exists, therefore areas with more physicians will merely reflect this need. [x]
3. The rising price of health care shows that the utilization of health care resources is growing. [x]
4. Health care demand increases as the population gets older. |

This question is answered in the last paragraph of the passage which sets things up by saying: "The close relationship between the supply of physicians and the amount of care they provide has led some people to believe . . . "
The author says "some people ... believe" and then "Others argue ..." in order to present 2 different arguments:
1) "physicians themselves generate care demands."
2) "the uneven distribution of physicians in large part reflects differences in demand for care between areas."
Answer choice B: more physicians reflects more need, is reflected by argument (2) above.
Other answer choices may or may not be true but are not reflected by the author's presentation of arguments. |
