I'm confused... I thought three transamination reactions occured. The one for amino acid in general was a deamination reaction? Could someone please explain? Thanks.

Yeah i am also confused, i only see 3 transanimations and thereby 3 enzymes would be needed.

amino acids in general and specifically, alanine, aspartate and glutamate.

someone please explain this, I picked 3 as well.

Same boat. I can't imagine that the conversion from protein to amino acids counts as a transamination. That would be a hydrolysis.

I think you could argue for 2 as well. Does the figure not imply that pyruvate could also come from glyceraldehyde and alpha-keto acids as well as from alanine? Pyruvate does not have to come from alanine all the time, there by making a minimum of only two amino acids that need to be present(glutamate which leads to alpha-ketoglutarate and aspartate which leads to oxaloacetate).
