I thought "organic" substances were anything that consisted of CHON atoms? I chose A because that's the only one that didn't have CHON in the formula. Why isn't this reasoning correct?
thanks! |

| The question is already stating that all of the answers are "inorganic". Your reasoning is right about organic molecules having CHNO atoms, but it does not answer this question. What the question is asking is which of the already state inorganic substances must be the reactant in Step 4. That is why H2O is a better answer since it answers the question better. |

| There is an addition of two hydrogen atoms to the nitrogen and the addition of an oxygen atom to the carbon which was present in the imine (-C=N-) functional group. Thus, we have added an (inorganic) molecule of water in this hydrolysis reaction. That is why H2O is a better answer since it answers the question better. |
