| Quote: | just double checking we dont need to study stuff like E1 or E2 reactions right? because it is not required to be learned right?
Then how can one answer questions like Q40 in gs 1 ... because and other questions in that passage... that require knowledge on E1 and E2 reactions?
Maybe i thought wrong and maybe we are responsible to know these stuff. Can someone please clarify
thankyou |

| Quote: | You are correct that previous knowledge of alkenes/E1/E2 reactions are not currently required for the MCAT. They can ask questions involving those topics but all the information must be provided in the passage.
In the passage that you are referring to (Page 8, GS-1, BS), you can answer almost all the questions without previous knowledge of alkenes. Even question 40, as you mentioned, answer choice B must be correct because information in the passage leads to concluding that Product A and C are SN1 and there is only one answer choice that has SN1 for both of those products.
That is not to say that in the 10 MCAT CBTs, with over 1400 questions that there may not be a handful of questions that are unfair or overly challenging but this passage would not count as such. Also keep in mind that according to the AAMC, 1-2 questions on the real exam are considered to be "test questions" and are therefore not scored. |
