I would contend that a French scientist simply using the term doesn't indicate that he originated it ... however when discussing the age of many deserts around the world (100 million yrs plus) and then referring to the more perceptible difference due to desertification within the past 100 years, it's easy to choose C instead of B.
Thoughts? |

Answer choice C,"Desertification is typically an intense but short-lived phenomenon", I think, is clearly wrong. As you said, some deserts are millions of years old.
Answer choice B is the right answer according to the first few sentences of the passage. |
