Hi there!
I was just wondering: on the real MCAT, would we be expected to calculate the pH of a compound using the quadratic formula? That just seems like a lot of work for what would likely be one question! Has anyone ever had a question like that?
Thanks gus, and best of luck! |

Sorry, *guys.
And I almost meant this message to be a reply to another pH calculation question someone had! So in short, for weak acids and bases, has anyone ever had a question where the pH had to be determined using the quadratic formula (using the ICE table method described in the Gold Standard, pages: CHM-59 to CHM-60?) Thanks! |

Because the AAMC puts the quadratic equation on the list of requirements for the MCAT, you are indeed theoretically responsible. However, there has not been such a question on any MCAT in more than 10 years!
Frankly, if you considered for a moment that you would need to use it on a real exam, you are probably solving the problem incorrectly or it's a test question. |
