Hi everyone im new to MCAT.
I decided to take MCAT and i would like to ask a few question regarding it. Im not from America and im an Asian. But i want to go America's medical college. So do i need to take MCAT for it? And also if i need to take MCAT, are the old MCAT books relevant to the new MCAT? Because im afraid when i buy the 2009 MCAT books and i decide to sit for it in 2011, will this affect the syllabus? I decided to buy the Gold Standard MCAT 2010 book and sit for MCAT in 2012 during my senior year in college, will this affect the syllabus and is it enough using only one book? Because i can only afford some books.

Thanks in advance and i look forward to anyone's prompt response regarding this matter.

Hello,

Yes, to get into medical school in the United States you will need to write the MCAT. In 2007, the MCAT changed to become a computer-based test (CBT), so some of the older texts may not be relevant for this type of test. The current Gold Standard 2010 is valid for anyone who writes the MCAT in 2009, 2010 or 2011. It is still to early to tell what the MCAT will be like in 2012. As for whether it is enough to use just one book, that depends entirely on your own study habits. In addition to the Gold Standard, we recommend the Silver Bullet: Real MCATs Explained. It contains the detailed solutions and explanations to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) practice tests #3 and 4, which can be found on their website (http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/preparing/orderingpracticetests.htm). We also have other media forms from which you can learn and study, notably the DVD lectures. You can find all of these materials and more at www.mcat-bookstore.com

Good luck with your studies!
