| I did not understand the reason that the answer is mgcos and not mg sin. Since the Normal force is perpendicular to the surface the force is opposite to the angle so that should be sine. |

In the future, please post in the proper thread for the chapter.
To see the detail as to how N = mg cosine of the angle, if you have the Gold Standard book, go to section 3.2.1 (if you don't, you can see the black/white version by clicking on Particle Dynamics below "Chapter Review").
You must see the diagram to understand how to properly resolve the force normal into the x and y directions. |
