I picked A as the answer because I thougth the main point of the passage was that the changes brought by the media forced the press to change their approch from reporting the news to analyzing the news. Thanks!

Your interpretation of the main idea of the passage is correct. That is why option A is an answer choice. However, it is in paragraph 1 where the author explicitly makes the comparison by stating:

"The media," thereafter, would always outweigh "the press," and for several reasons.

Of course, in reality, media includes the press. So why would the author use the word "media" as if it did not include the press? The best explanation would be that the press has become a minor player in media. Answer choice A is a correct statement but it is more general making C the best answer. Fortunately, VR only has 1-2 questions per test like this one.
