14. The overall point made by the author's comparison of the "press" and the "media" is that:
1. television, media and the press are all being transformed. [x]
2. the press is an important part of the media. [x]
3. the media is now dominated by television, no longer by the press. [x]
4. the public trusts the press more than the media.
I picked A as the answer because I thougth the main point of the passage was that the changes brought by the media forced the press to change their approch from reporting the news to analyzing the news. Thanks! |

Your interpretation of the main idea of the passage is correct. That is why option A is an answer choice. However, it is in paragraph 1 where the author explicitly makes the comparison by stating:
"The media," thereafter, would always outweigh "the press," and for several reasons.
Of course, in reality, media includes the press. So why would the author use the word "media" as if it did not include the press? The best explanation would be that the press has become a minor player in media. Answer choice A is a correct statement but it is more general making C the best answer. Fortunately, VR only has 1-2 questions per test like this one. |
