I thought phenols weren't on the new MCAT. I've been hearing that again and again, but I can't remember where.

No previous knowledge of the chemistry of benzene and benzene derivatives (including phenols) is required for the new MCAT. You can still be asked a question regarding such compounds but there should be sufficient information in the passage so that you can answer the question without previous knowledge.

If you do see a question on the real MCAT that has such a question where there is insufficient information in the passage then it is a test question.
