"A politician's role should be that of a nations leader, not of a public servant."
Explain the meaning of the statement, a specific situation in which a politician should be a public servant, and what you think determines the role of a politician. (something like that)
The statement is trying to say that the role of the politician is to help lead his or her country into and ideal direction, no be a servant to the public and all of their varying needs. I think a politician should in fact be a public servant when he or she is running for the position in which they wish to be elected. Here they should be catering to the publics most important issues and requests. They should be in communities and towns conversing with folks about real problems of today and doing and/or promising what they can to improve the nation when they are indeed elected. It is a good way to achieve votes as well as make a difference.
I believe a politician should posses both roles as a national leader and public servant throughout their careers. These are two key characteristics needed for the job. To be a good politician, you must be a leader. It is important to carry yourself well, have your own beliefs that you retain, and be a prestigious representation for your nation: an example for others to follow. Furthermore, being a politician is also about serving the people of your nation that you represent. It is your job to find out what issues are most important to the people, and what changes will effect them as a whole in the best way. We the people, count on politicians and trust our government, whether it be local, state, or national, to do what is best for our country, as well as represent our own voices. In addition, certain situations determine the role of a politician. In times of war, a leader is most important, in times of reform, a public servant may be the best solution. It all depends upon the issues most relavent in society at the time and the opinions of the many people in which they serve. |
