| A normal red blood cell in humans lacks a nucleus and many organelles including mitochondria. In top of that, these "ghosts" have lost their intracellular proteins (due to being permeable in a hypotonic medium). So they end up being "empty cells" or just ghosts of what a real cell should be. |
